One of my guilty pleasures is watching Keeping Up with The Kardashians – a habit that very much formed throughout my pregnancy, especially during the last trimester.
Like the rest of the world, I was bewildered by Kylie Jenner’s lips and found every development in the story fascinating.
It was inevitably only a matter of time before Kylie turned her cosmetic obsession into a lucrative initiative. Kylie Cosmetics were born and naturally the first products launches were lip kits, including matte lipsticks and lip liners. The collection also included metal finishes and glosses.
The first few launches sold out within seconds and it took a few months for the hype to die down. I pretty much ignored it, knowing that the shipping costs and duties would be too much of a pain for me to benefit from bothering about these particular products. After all, I told myself, I’m sure it’s not organic or paraben free.
So, I was determined to ignore all of the YouTube ‘unboxing’ vlogs, lip kit swatches and an endless stream of beautiful matte pouts filling up my Instagram feed.
I then read about a British editor’s experience of using the Kylie lip kits and I admit, as I read an essentially glowing review about the efficacy of the product I found myself swayed.
I caved and started browsing the website. I had my eye on a few shades, which just so happened to be the favourite shades and at the time were out of stock. So I waited patiently for a few weeks and still no stock. Finally impatient, I placed an order for two lip glosses, a lip kit and a lip liner in the shade I wanted. The next day, the lip kit in my chosen shade was back so I placed an order for another two lip kits! Oops – that’s twice the total of shipping fees and duties. Yikes!
As I predicted I had to shell out more money before Royal Mail delivered my parcels. I know I spent a lot, I haven’t worked out how much – mostly because I’m in denial – but I don’t regret it.
So, the shades I opted for include Exposed, Candy K, Maliboo (matte lip kits) and Literally and So Cute (glosses). I love the lip liners especially, the pigments are lovely and the texture is perfect. The matte lipsticks smell delicious – like cookies – and they dry pretty quickly. The coverage is full and so relatively light shades still appear quite dark on my pale English Rose skin. The glosses are just as pigmented as the lipsticks but with a gorgeous sheen.
They certainly provide the desired pouty look and I might as well say it, that whilst I love it, my hubby thinks it looks silly and would much rather I went bare-lipped. I like what I like, what can I say. Besides, not speaking for any other gent out there, but my hubby wouldn’t know style if it smacked him in the face. Sorry honey, still love you! 😜
Verdict is, a very happy customer is pleased with her Kylie Jenner merchandise and plans to continue to fill Kylie’s expensive Balmain pockets with even more cold hard cash in the future.
Take a look at my swatches and selfies and let me know what you think of the lip kits if you’d tried them.
Love Em Xx
